I hope some of this might help your thinking process. I think iirc that the 6XP ran at about 12-1.0 o'clock for a "loud listening session" and normally about 11 0'clock i couldn't of played that loud in an apartment or semi-detached house. in those days i lived in a detached house. The result is cleaner, more precise sound. Its smooth curved surfaces help radiate sound out across the baffle without any interference from hard edges, which cause diffraction. and from memory i don't think i got the Monos much past 9.30 on the dial often and 12 0'clock was loud enough to hear outside. LS50 Meta’s low-diffraction, curved baffle is precision modelled around the Uni-Q driver array. So as you have 85wpc ? on tap i'd say go for it as the few reviews i've seen of the Meta say they are an improvement on the original LS50s. later in 2017 i got a pair of Cyrus Mono X amps and a Cyrus Pre X to route things through and the extra power of the Mono's (150w each, with peak burst they say of 1500w) allowed the KEFs to really sing but they weren't bad running on the 40wpc 6XP. I initially used a Cyrus 6XP only 40wpc iirc along with a Cyrus 8.0 discmaster (cd player) and an SRM Tech Athena TT with Graham Slee Phono, plus i plugged my tv to the 6XP and the KEFs sounded great. i've just sold them as needs must and i wasn't using them, i had a pair of the original LS50s since 2013. I don’t listen to anything super bass heavy such as EDM though.Īre there any alternatives you’d recommend?Ĭlick to expand. All i can say is that in the past. Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, City & Colour), contemporary classical (e.g. Parkway Drive, Periphery, Architects), synthwave (e.g. Will the speakers cope with a wide range of music? I listen to modern metal (e.g. Will my current amplifier provide sufficient power (on paper it does but I know the KEFs are hungry!)? The KEF LS50 Metas seem to tick all boxes on paper, and they look the part too, so these are what I’m primarily considering. I’m looking to upgrade my speakers to something around the £1k mark. I currently have Acoustic Energy 301 bookshelf speakers in a nearfield desktop setup, paired with a Yamaha A-S501 85W amplifier and a Tannoy mSUB 10 subwoofer. I appreciate this is a rather ambiguous question given sound is a personal taste, however I’d welcome any feedback on my situation given that it’s not possible to test speakers in stores at the moment (in the UK at least). ![]()
